Complex climatic effects


As mentioned before, meteorological elements do not affect people each on its own but work as a whole and this is why we have to interpret them together. A differentiation is usually made between "actinic" and "thermal" effects.

While actinic effects comprise all biologically active components of solar radiation, thermal effects summarize all elements which have a direct influence on people's heat balance. Complex factors like sultriness, thermal comfort, perceived temperature and equivalent temperature were introduced in this context. We must not forget, however, that perception is subjective and may differ significantly from one person to another, also depending on the person's constitution and age. What also plays a major role is clothing and the individual's current physical activity.
