9. Climate analysis maps (map-XIII, pages 1 to 12)

One element of the climate analysis carried out by the neighbourhood association Stuttgart is the drawing up of a climate analysis map representing the local climatic conditions of this territory as an areal overview. The basis for this map is the data presented in chapters 4 to 8 and the resulting maps. The following working and information materials were also used:

• topographic maps (scale = 1 : 20,000 and 1 : 25,000)
• city maps
• land use plans of the entire territory (scale = 1 : 10,000 and 1 : 20,000)
• aerial picture plans of the entire territory (scale = 1 : 10,000)
• temperature measurement drives at the time of the thermal measurement flights
• meteorological and air hygiene measurements from special measurement programmes carried out by the Office for Environmental Protection (series of measurements of at least one year)
• local inspections in the area under investigation
• traffic analysis in Stuttgart in 1990
• traffic volume map of Baden-Württemberg from 1985
• counted and calculated traffic volumes within the emission inventory of the middle Neckar region, source group traffic, basic year 1988

For a better understanding of the climate analysis maps, we would like to point out that the indication of climatopes and cold air catchment areas is not absolutely exact and accurate to the metre. There are tolerances of 50 to 100 m as the determination of the borders in consideration of the transition areas as well as the drawing accuracy due the used working materials have to be taken into account. Technical expert opinions are necessary for more detailed information. The distribution of the arrow signatures illustrates the air flows relevant for settlements.

The signatures and symbols used in the maps correspond largely with those of the preliminary draft for VDI guideline 3787.
