3. The regional climate and air situation
Precipitation


Due to the Stuttgart's location on the lee side of the Black Forest, the annual amount of precipitation is relatively low with about 700 litres per square metre. June is the month with the biggest amount of precipitation (about 100 litres), March with the lowest (less than 40 litres).

Regions with the lowest amount of precipitation in Germany only have annual amounts of less than 600 mm (e.g. Rheinhessen in the wind shadow of the Palatine), while some regions in the Alpine foothills and the Black Forest have more than 2,000 mm of precipitation per year.
